SMeet our facilitatorshayna's Village: A Cultural Arts Center for Children

There are lots of opportunities for Shayna’s Village members to spend quality time together in this special parenting center at the JCC's Maitland Campus.

Make sure to check out the unique classes that are offered for children and families. Classes are held Monday through Thursday.

Imagine the Possibilities
Providing a high-quality early childhood education has always been the goal of our JCC Early Childhood Learning Center. Research has proven that children benefit from participating in activities that engage all of the senses and support different learning styles.

Free play opportunities, along with academic and social-enrichment activities, should be made available to all children as a part of optimal development. Free play, when supported but not structured by adults, allows children to use their creativity and develop their imagination. Creative activities or activities that support "the arts" are the key to helping wire children’s brains for future learning and success.

Our Story
In the summer of 2007, thanks to very generous grants provided by Darden Restaurants and  Blue Cross and Blue Shield, we renovated our Parenting Center and turned it into  Shayna’s Village: A Cultural Arts  Center for Children. Shayna’s  Village was created to provide a unique family-friendly  atmosphere in which children and their families could have fun participating in "the arts" on  a regular basis and all in one room!

So Much to Learn!
Six main areas make up Shayna’s Village. The six areas are the Loft Library, Children’s Theater, Science and Discovery Area, Teaching Kitchen, Artpark, and Playscape Garden. In each area, with the support of educational facilitators, children can experience imaginative activities that foster creativity, teach life skills, and build self-confidence as well as self-discipline. Families can benefit, too, as they access services (support groups), develop parenting skills, and participate in an atmosphere that promotes meaningful family involvement.

We are so excited about our upcoming plans for Shayna’s Village! If you are interested in hearing more, please e-mail Karen Duncan at karend@orlandojcc.org or call the ECLC office.
