Why Attend a Jewish Summer Camp?

At the JCC, children of all faiths are embraced. The JCC proudly teaches Jewish values — such as charity, kindness, and repairing the world. In addition, children celebrate Jewish and Israeli culture through food, song and story.

While the JCC is not a synagogue or religious institution, it proudly celebrates Jewish culture in a fun, inclusive way.

Jewish Content
The JCC strives to incorporate diversity by integrating a values curriculum into its programming. Participants are taught tolerance and appreciation for others, forgiveness, and the importance of standing up for what is good and right.

The Andrew Hansen Mandell Summer Camp also believes that teaching Jewish youth about their cultural heritage is an integral and exciting part of the camp experience. Our Judaic specialist spends the summer teaching about Israel and engaging children in a wide variety of activities which celebrate Jewish heritage. Using song, dance, drama, art, and special theme days, the enthusiastic staff brings to life the wonderful traditions of the Jewish people.

Weekly Judaic Themes
Each week at camp revolves around a special Judaic theme, focusing on Israel. Exploring the cities of Israel, discovering Israeli food, songs, and learning Israeli dances are just a few of the themes which are incorporated into the summer.

Shabbat ("Sabbath") Celebration
Friday is a special day at camp, because it marks the morning before the Jewish shabbat, or sabbath. Shabbat is celebrated during an assembly each Friday with lively music and dance, incorporating Jewish songs of universal appeal as well as some of today's popular music. Throughout the week, campers prepare for and look forward to the Shabbat celebration. Song leaders from around Orlando will lead Shabbat and sing and dance with the campers. One of the most exciting and memorable moments for many of the campers is when they get to perform with their group in front of the entire camp. Families are invited to join us at camp for our Shabbat celebrations at 9:30 a.m. (preschool) and 3:10 p.m. (Grades 1-9).
